About Trust

Dr. Jagdish D. Samant

Founder's Vision

Dr. Jagdish D. Samant, founder of the institution, always lived for the poor. His vision was to create a healthy, literate society. He dedicated his life for the betterment of a financially weak section of society who is deprived of basic needs such as sanitation, health facilities and education. He strongly believed that these people also have the right to live sustainable, comfortable life, get quality education and health treatment.

Need of Medical Facility

Arnala village (Tal.Vasai, Dist Palghar, Maharahstra) is Dr. Samant’s native place.

During the 80's and 90’s era, there was a huge shortage of health & sanitation facilities in this region.

The population of 35000, living in Arnala and its vicinity including Arnala Fort, consisted primarily of the below poverty line, Scheduled Cast, Scheduled Tribe and middle class people. Majority were laborers, farmers and fishermen who cannot afford to pay the charges of paid hospitals.

In case of emergencies like heart attacks, snake bites, accidents, obstructed deliveries etc., they had to either succumb to death or remain on God’s mercy till they reach a nearby free or affordable hospital.

Ironically, the nearest free hospital was actually 30 km away from Arnala. It was at Borivali in the Mumbai suburbs.

A public meeting was conducted with residents of Arnala and nearby vicinity. They formed a Public Charitable Trust, got it registered with Charity Commissioner and Income-Tax Commissioner, Mumbai.
